Toyota, Lexus and Scion earned a total of 15 “Top Safety Pick” awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), more than any other automaker for model-year 2012, the IIHS recently announced.
The 15 award-winning models are: Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Prius v, Sienna, Tundra (crew cab models), Venza and Yaris (4-door hatchback); Lexus CT 200h and RX; and Scion tC, xB and xD.
Commenting on the announcement, Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., said, “Safety is a core value that dates back to the foundation of our company. IIHS’ awards further recognize our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.”
The award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rollover and rear crashes based on ratings in Institute evaluations, IIHS said. The ratings, which cover four common kinds of crashes, help shoppers pick vehicles that offer the highest levels of crash protection.
